Living heritage

A priority for the team’s development in 2024 is the establishment of a research group on intangible cultural heritage: Living Heritage.

A priority for the team’s development in 2024 is the establishment of a research group on intangible cultural heritage: Living Heritage. Kaustinen fiddle (violin) playing was nominated for the National Inventory of Living Heritage in 2016 and was selected for the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021. Centria is the only university of applied sciences in Finland where folk music can be studied. The research team collaborates closely with folk music professionals and enthusiasts in Kaustinen, as well as with Centria’s music education.

Network cooperation emphasizes both inter-regional collaboration within Ostrobothnian regions and cultural cooperation among the Nordic countries. The research group’s objective is to maintain living heritage as a dynamic resource and discover new channels for it, including through applied technological innovations.
