Centria’s music students, their teachers as well as other music professionals perform in Centria Concerts. At the Music School, our music students gain valuable teaching experience while you or your child can develop your musical skills.
Centria Concerts
Centria’s music education organises concerts which audiences are more than welcome to join. The concerts are usually held on Thursdays at 19:00 in the Fordell Hall of the Snellman Music Center (address: Vingenkatu 18, Kokkola).
The concerts include students of Centria music with their teachers and other students and professionals in the music industry.
Chamber Music: Face to Face
Chamber music period closing concert. Chamber musicians of Centria UAS and Central Ostrobothnian Conservatory perform with pianist Juho Alakärppä and cellist Marjukka Puutio on 8 October 2026 at 17:30 in Fordell Hall. Admission is free, warmly welcome!
Clara, Robert and Hugo
Songs by Clara and Robert Schumann and Hugo Wolf will be performed on Thursday 22 October at 19.00 in Fordell Hall, featuring Centria singers and pianists. The concert is directed by Juho Alakärppä. Admission is free. Welcome to enjoy the concert!
Children’s Concert: Magdaleena’s Search for Joy
Folk musician Sini Merkkiniemi-Nurminen’s final exam concert is a captivating, multidisciplinary stage production for the whole family, bringing together music, storytelling and the performing arts. The performance features music students from Centria, as well as the children’s choir Sävelsäkki from Central Ostrobothnia Conservatory. Admission is free. Welcome to enjoy the concert together with the whole family!
The Great Folk Music Concert
The folk musicians of Centria take the stage and interpret gems from our rich folk tradition on Thursday, November 12 at 7 PM in the Fordell Hall. Admission is free and everyone is warmly welcome!
Centria Music School
The Music School is a practice school operated in connection with Centria University of Applied Sciences. Each academic year, we need practice students for various instruments to participate in teaching practice as part of music students’ studies. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced music enthusiast – apply to become a student at our school!
Centria’s music education is looking for practice students for various instruments for teaching practice periods beginning in September and January.
During their teaching practice, future Bachelor’s Degrees in Culture and Arts have the opportunity to develop their interaction skills, design different learning environments, and reflect on their own professional development. Music students practise teaching under the guidance of a mentor specialising in their instrument. This means that a supervising teacher and fellow students may occasionally observe the lessons. The student may also record a lesson on video, but recordings are made for teaching purposes only.
Who can apply?
Practice students of all ages can be selected, from complete beginners to more advanced students. In general, we hope to have children and young people as students, but especially for singing lessons, we also welcome adult students. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, but the need for students varies from year to year depending on the instrument.
Lessons: Lessons are 30 or 45 minutes per week, depending on the teaching practice period. There are 24 teaching weeks during the academic year.
Teaching locations: Pitkänsillankatu 16 (Central Ostrobothnia Conservatory) or Talonpojankatu 2 (Centria campus)
Term fee: 50 €
Instrument rental: Some instruments may also be available for rent. The rental fee is 50 € per academic year. The renter is responsible for covering any repair costs resulting from damage to the instrument.
