Studying at Centria Open UAS
If your goal is to strengthen your vocational skills, find a new profession, or complete degree studies later in life at a university of applied sciences, Open UAS is a great way to develop your competence. At Centria Open UAS you can study both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses. Please note that to participate in Master’s degree courses, you must have completed a Bachelor’s degree.
Please read the course description and cancellation terms (general terms can be found below) before enrolling. When you begin your Open UAS studies, you will be granted a study right at Centria for the course or study module in which you have enrolled. Before your studies begin, you will receive instructions by email on how to get started.
Note! As a rule, recognition of prior learning is not possible in Open University of Applied Sciences
studies. An exception to this rule are qualification modules whose completion at the Open University of Applied Sciences leads to a regulated qualification or other formally recognised qualification.
Itslearning study environment
Itslearning is an online learning environment used for both contact and online teaching. The learning environment can be found at: https://centria.Itslearning.com.
To begin your studies, log in to Itslearning and activate your account. Instructions for activating your account will be sent to your email once you have been accepted to Open UAS studies.
You can log in to Itslearning for the duration of your studies. Please note that your account will automatically expire 14 days after your studies have ended.
Assessments are completed within one month after your studies end. You can request a transcript of records from avoinamk@centria.fi. Transcript of records is a document which contains information of the studies you have completed.
Enrolment, study fees and cancellation terms
Open UAS study fees
- Individual courses 15 € / credit
- Bachelor’s degree path studies 45 credits, 200 €
The study fee for each course is stated in the course description. In addition to the course fee, students may be charged for additional costs such as study materials. Any possible extra fees are always mentioned in the course description.
If you are completing a degree at a Finnish upper secondary level school, open UAS studies are free of charge. Select the enrolment type ‘Upper secondary level student’.
1. Enrolment
Enrolment for Centria’s Open University of Applied Sciences studies is binding. By enrolling, the student agrees to the payment and cancellation terms. Binding enrolment means that Centria does not refund the study fee, even if the student later discontinues or does not start the studies, except in special circumstances stated in sections 5 and 6.
The right to study is granted for a specific period and content, and applies only to the studies for which the student has enrolled in. The right to study cannot be transferred to another implementation or to the next semester. Open UAS studies do not include a statutory right to non-attendance.
2. Study fees
Fees for Open UAS studies are based on the Government Decree on Fees Charged by Universities of Applied Sciences 1440/2014 (amendment decree 200/2024). The maximum fee is 45 € / credit (VAT 0%). Centria may price studies below this maximum.
Prices are listed in the course-specific descriptions in the Open UAS study offering (https://ella.eduplan.fi/centria). Centria may also charge additional fees, e.g., for learning materials. Such information will be included in the course-specific description.
Payment is made via a payment link sent by email upon acceptance of the enrolment. Studies are paid in a single installment. Collection costs in accordance with the Debt Collection Act (513/1999) will be added to payment reminders. Public receivables are directly enforceable.
3. Binding nature of the payment and non-payment
If the study fee is not paid on time, the enrolment will automatically lapse and the study place will be made available to others. Once the study fee is paid, the enrolment becomes binding. The study fee will not be refunded, even if the student does not start or discontinues the studies. Exceptions are outlined in sections 5 and 6.
4. Possibility to cancel enrolment before the studies begin
Enrolment can be cancelled free of charge before the studies begin, if the enrolment has not been accepted and the student has not paid the study fee.
Cancellations must be submitted to: avoinamk@centria.fi.
Once the study fee has been paid or the right to study has been confirmed, the enrolment is binding and the fee will not be refunded.
5. Special circumstances
If a student accepted into path studies receives a place in Centria’s degree programme before the path studies begin, they may request a refund of the study fee by contacting avoinamk@centria.fi. The refund request must be made immediately upon accepting the degree place. The email must include a document verifying acceptance of the study place.
6. Cancellation of studies by Centria
If Centria has to cancel a study module or a course, paid fees will be refunded and no charges will be applied.
Centria reserves the right to make changes to study implementations. Any changes will be promptly communicated to students.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
You will receive instructions on how to activate the ID to your email before the start of your studies. Please, contact avoinamk@centria.fi to verify that your email address is correct.
You can use the link “Forgotten password?” on Itslearning login page, and the login info will be sent to your email again. Remember to use the same email you used when enrolling in the course. If you do not receive an email, please contact avoinamk@centria.fi
Courses will be visible in Itslearning on the day the studies start.
Open UAS students are not eligible for student financial aid (for example student allowance, discounts on trains and buses) based on their studies.
If the course is still ongoing, you should be able to log in without any problems. However, if the course has ended, your user ID might be locked, and you will no longer have access to the learning environment. The user ID automatically expires shortly after the course.
