Open UAS

The studies may consist of contact teaching and/or independent work. Additionally, you can select online studies, which are also part of the Centria curriculum and can be recognised in later studies. At the Open UAS, you can study both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses. Please note: when you participate in Master’s courses, you must have a completed UAS degree in the field.

Studies may take place during the daytime, in the evenings and on weekends. The studies progress under the guidance of a tutor teacher in Itslearning. You familiarize yourself with the learning material and complete various tasks. The studies can consist of online assignments and/or, in some courses, an online exam.

An open university student is not entitled to any financial benefits (for example student allowance, discounts on trains and buses) based on their studies.

Note! The Open University of Applied Sciences does not recognise previous studies. It is only done for degree students. In the Open UAS, only partial, individually agreed, credit transfers can be made on a case-by-case basis, whereby the student demonstrates their competence in a way determined by the teacher. The RPL process is the same as for degree students. For further information, please contact the course teacher or tutor. Credit transfers at Open UAS do not qualify for a price reduction.

Itslearning study environment

On the starting date of the studies, please log in to Itslearning to begin your studies. Instructions on how to activate your ID for Itslearning will be sent to your email address no later than the start date of the studies.

You can use the ID to log in to the learning environment for the duration of your studies. Please note that the ID will automatically expire within 14 days of the end date of the course.

Transcript of records and grade transfer

One month after the completion of the studies at the latest, the grade for the course will be available in the Peppi system (students of Centria UAS and other UAS’s using Cross-Institutional Study Service (RIPA).

If you are an Open UAS student, you can request a certificate from avoinamk@centria.fi.

If you are an Open UAS student (not a degree student at any University of applied sciences) or an upper secondary education level student, you enrol through the Education calendar Ella Eduplan.

If you are a student from another Finnish university of applied sciences, your school uses Cross-Institutional Study Service and you can enrol via your own school’s Peppi system.

Please use your active school email address when enrolling in courses.

Study fees

Open UAS students pay the study fee themselves. Company (or group) enrolments can be done in Ella Eduplan by selecting the enrolment type ”Organisaatio”.

Dropping out or not completing studies does not entitle you to a refund or cancellation of the invoice.

If you are a student from another university of applied sciences, you can participate in open UAS studies free of charge based on a cooperation agreement.

If you are completing a degree at a Finnish upper secondary level school, open UAS studies are free of charge. Select the enrolment type ‘toisen asteen opiskelija (väyläopinnot)”.

If you are a Centria UAS student, Centria online studies are free of charge but enrolment is done through the Peppi system.

Cancellation of participation in a course

You can cancel your participation during the enrolment time. Please submit your cancellation notification to the study advisor in time at avoinamk@centria.fi. In the message, state both your name and the name of the course you wish to cancel. You will receive an email after the cancellation has been processed.

When will I receive information on the course I enrolled in?

You will get an email with information about the course approximately a week before it starts.

In case of course cancellation, you will be notified immediately after the enrolment period ends.

I didn’t get the Itslearning user ID. What do I do?

You will receive instructions on how to activate the ID to your email before the start of your studies. Please, contact avoinamk@centria.fi to verify that your email address is correct.

If you have not received this email, check the Junk Mail folder of your email account. If you cannot find the instruction mail there, please contact avoinamk@centria.fi

You can use the link “Forgotten password?” on Itslearning login page, and the login info will be sent to your email again. Remember to use the same email you used when enrolling in the course.

I can not find my course in Itslearning?

All courses will be visible in Itslearning the day the studies start.

How can I give feedback on a course?

You can give feedback in Itslearning during the course.

The course has started, but the tutor teacher has not contacted me?

First, log in to Itslearning and try to contact the tutor from there.

You can also contact avoinamk@centria.fi to make sure your email address is correct.

I’ve completed my studies, but the grade does not appear in my school’s system. How do I transfer my grade to my own school?

Most UAS’s are using the national Cross-Institutional Study Service (RIPA). Grades will automatically transfer to your school’s Peppi system.

If you are an Open UAS student or a secondary level student, submit a certificate request to avoinamk@centria.fi. In your message, please mention your name, the date of completion and the name of the course.

I want to cancel my studies, what do I do?

You can cancel your studies by submitting a written notification to avoinamk@centria.fi

Please note that you can cancel your participation only while the enrolment period is active.

I got an invoice for a course I cancelled?

Please contact avoinamk@centria.fi to check whether the invoice is justified.

In case you have cancelled your participation in the course after the enrolment period, or the cancellation has gone to the wrong email address (e.g. the teacher of the course), invoicing is justified.

I’m not sure this course is right for me?

If you need more detailed information on the course description, please contact avoinamk@centria.fi well in advance.

If you are a student from another UAS, before enrolling in a course, please make sure that it is suitable for your studies.

Why can’t I access Itslearning anymore?

If the course is still ongoing, you should be able to log in without any problems. However, if the course has ended, your user ID might be locked, and you will no longer have access to the learning environment. The user ID automatically expires shortly after the course.
