The significance of gerontological nursing is increasing as the elderly population currently constitutes a significant portion of the population, and this proportion is expected to grow in the future. Previous research shows that the competence of nursing professionals and students in gerontological nursing needs to be enhanced to meet the needs of the older people.

The GeroDigi project strengthens and unifies the competence in gerontological nursing of nursing professionals working in well-being regions (Lapha, Pohde and Soite) by producing open digital learning material and digital badges that demonstrate the related competence. The project is implemented as a group project of Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Oulu University of Applied Sciences and Centria University of Applied Sciences.

The project responds to the need for continuous professional competence development in gerontological nursing by promoting time and place-independent, flexible competence development in accordance with the principles of micro-learning. The results of the project also promote digital documentation of the acquired knowledge using digital badges.

The actual target group of the project are nursing professionals working in the well-being regions of Lapland, Northern Ostrobothnia, and Central Ostrobothnia in the public, private and third sectors, as well as nursing students.

The GeroDigi project is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).
