HABITUS – Decentralized Biogas Production and liquefaction in Finland
Branch: Chemistry and bioeconomy
Duration: 1.1.2020 – 31.12.2022
Region: Central Ostrobothnia
Financed by: European Regional Development Fund
Council of Central Ostrobothnia
Project Manager: Heidi Kanala-Salminen
The aim of the project is to create an operating model for decentralized farm size biogas production and biomethane liquefaction in Finland. The goal is to develop and construct a biomethane liquefaction unit and carbon dioxide separation unit. In addition, the focus is on digestate processing and nutrient recovery with emphasis on process profitability in a small scale.
The development section also includes the creation of a virtual energy cooperative, based on farmers from the Central Ostrobothnia area. With the help of the virtual energy cooperative, the project will seek an optimal operating model for decentralized biogas production and liquefaction.
