Become a mentor for a new international student!
Do you want to spread the good and be part of an inspiring and fun team that helps international students settle in a new country and culture? Now is your chance to share your own experience and support new students on their journey!

What are we looking for?
- Students who have already found their path and want to share their tacit knowledge and experiences.
- Students who are ready to support new international degree students in adapting to a new environment and culture.
- Team players who want to create a positive and supportive atmosphere.
What does the mentorship include?
- Helping international students to settle in a new country and culture.
- Providing support and advice on everyday challenges.
- Organizing events and activities for international degree students.
The mentoring relationship starts when mentors welcome new students and contact their mentees by email already before they arrive on campus. The mentor plans the first meeting, which is a city tour of Kokkola. Meetings with the mentored students will be monthly throughout the academic year. Mentors also organize events and meetings around different themes (wellbeing, work/career, culture, and so on).
The mentors get support, guidance and an initial training session to go through the annual mentoring cycle and the mentoring structure in more detail. Mentoring activities are planned together. The training will be a two-day training, 4h/day, for those selected as mentors on 19–20 May 2025. It is also possible to participate remotely if you are no longer in Kokkola at that time, otherwise attendance on campus is required.
On average, 8 hours per month should be set aside for mentoring, which may vary from month to month.
The planning of the mentoring programme has started this spring and the programme is now being piloted, so the structure of the mentoring will evolve along the way and mentors will also be involved in this development.
Why apply?
- Be part of a team and get to know new people and cultures.
- You will receive a salary and a certificate of employment for your mentoring, which will be a valuable addition to your CV.
For the mentoring year, which runs from May to April, a sum of €1000 is paid. This will be paid in two instalments, €500 at the end of the autumn term and €500 at the end of the spring term. You will also receive a certificate of employment.
