Refund policy for students starting their studies in fall semester 2026
If you do not receive your residence permit in time to register in person on campus or
receive negative resident permit decision by the field-specific deadline, and cannot start
your studies, you may apply for a tuition fee refund under certain conditions:
- After the field-specific registration deadline, Centria will cancel conditional study
places for students who have not registered. - Once the cancellation decision is issued, you may apply for a refund through the E-Application (information regarding this will be sent via e-mail).
- Centria continuously monitors the progress of your residence permit process from
Migri to ensure you proceed according to instructions but is not involved in or
responsible for the process. - If you receive a negative resident permit decision, you need to submit the official
decision from the Finnish Immigration Service to admissions@centria.fi - Refunds are not granted if you withdraw your residence permit application yourself.
Please note:
- The student is required to immediately inform the Admissions Office of any changes
that may affect their eligibility. - Centria will contact the Finnish Immigration Service to ensure that the residence
permit process of non-arriving refund seeking students was initiated on time and/or
that the negative residence permit decision is real, that the student attended all
relevant meetings, and that they promptly followed any requests for further
clarification. If the student has made every effort but still failed to obtain the permit,
Centria will issue a refund of the tuition fees. - Centria will confirm with the Finnish Immigration Service that you followed all
required steps in the residence permit process. If you have met all obligations but the
permit is still denied, your tuition fees will be refunded. - There is no obligation to refund the tuition fee if
o a conditionally accepted student does not meet the eligibility requirements
with their final diploma
o has submitted falsified documents with their application or during
registration - A handling fee (475 €) will be charged for processing the refund.
In any other instance, the tuition fee will not be refunded.
Previous refund policies
Refund policy for students starting their studies in fall semester 2024: If an applicant receives a negative residence permit decision and based on that is not able to arrive on campus, the tuition fee can be under certain conditions refunded.
- In order to be able to get the tuition fee back, the applicant needs to send a copy of the negative decision from the Immigration Office to admissions@centria.fi, as well as attach a copy of an original payment receipt and filled the ‘tuition fee refund’ application. Also, the applicant has to be able to prove that he or she has applied for the residence permit well in time (as soon as possible after receiving the admission letter and paying the tuition fee).
- The applicant is not able to apply for a tuition fee refund if he or she has withdrawn the residence permit application himself or herself and that way interrupted the residence permit process and forced the Immigration Office to abort the application process.
- If a negative residence permit decision is received, the applicant should notify Centria UAS as soon as possible. Tuition fees will not be refunded after the study year in question has ended.
- The detailed refund policy is always mentioned in the acceptance letter, which is sent to applicants along with notification of student selection.
For students who started their studies in 2022: Students who study online in distance learning mode and wish to apply for the tuition fee refund after receiving a negative residence permit decision will get a full refund of the tuition fee (after the handling fee deduction of 250 euros) if they choose not to continue their studies. The negative decision, as well as the notification of withdrawal, must be submitted to Centria by 31 December 2022 the latest (for students starting in fall 2022). This is an exception to the refund policy due to the Covid-19 pandemic. After the deadline, tuition fees will not be refunded even if a negative decision is received.
For students who started their studies in 2025: Centria’s goal is to welcome all newly accepted students on campus before the field-specific registration deadline. If a student has followed all of Centria’s guidelines and timelines, as well as the instructions from the Finnish Immigration Service, but has still not received a positive residence permit decision, tuition fees will be refunded under the following conditions.
