Tailored Nursing programme

Centria University of Applied Sciences educates qualified nurses who care for patients, support them and maintain rehabilitation for people of various ages.

The Nursing studies at Centria University of Applied Sciences will include integration into Finnish society, language studies and modules that aim to familiarise participants with the Finnish social and healthcare environment. The studies include practical training at Finnish hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The students cannot work as Registered Nurses before graduating from Centria’s education programme and applying for and receiving their certification from Valvira. However, students can work as practical nurses or as substitute nurses already during their studies. Getting paid for work during the studies is significantly easier if the student has already studied the basic level of the Finnish language.

The studies can be completed in 14 months, and the student is expected to proceed in studies so that she/he can graduate after completing the 90 ECTS programme. If the studies take longer than the estimated time the student will become liable to pay normal tuition fees in Centria.

The language of the training is English. During the studies, students will also have opportunities to learn Finnish which is of utmost importance during the practical internships and for getting the Valvira certification after graduation.

The studies will take place in Kokkola, Finland. Some internship placements may be located in other areas in Central Ostrobothnia, Ostrobothnia and Northern Ostrobothnia.

The studies in Kokkola will start in March 2023. Students are free to start online Finnish language studies even before that using public material.

To be eligible for the programme the students must:

  • prove that they do not have a criminal record. This must be presented to the Finnish Embassy in your country of residence before travelling to Finland.
  • provide previous Nursing degree certificates in English.
  • prove that the previous education is from a legitimate higher education institute.
  • prove that secondary education gives the right to study in higher education institutions in the home country.
  • be able to study in English (minimum level of 5.5 IELTS).

Applicants must have the health and functional capacity required for studies in the area. The so-called SORA legislation applies to education leading to a UAS degree in the fields of social services and health care, humanities and education, sports and exercise and seafaring. These fields have requirements concerning the safety of minors, patient and client safety or traffic safety which restrict student admission. In these fields, it is required that the health and functional capacity of approved applicants are such that they are able to take part in practical assignments or training relating to studies.
