Rectification Procedure for Student-Related Decisions
This page explains which decisions a student may request to be rectified, how to submit a request for rectification, and where to send it.
General Information on Requests for Rectification
A request for rectification must include at least:
- the decision for which rectification is requested
- the student’s name, student number, and contact details
- a clear statement of what changes are requested to the decision
- the grounds for the request
- the necessary attachments
The request for rectification must be made within the time limit specified for each type of decision. The time limits are indicated for each case and in the rectification instructions attached to the decision you have received.
The request must be submitted to the body or person responsible for handling rectification matters related to that decision. Exact contact details and submission methods are provided in the rectification instructions attached to the decision.
The official binding version of these instructions is in Finnish. In case of discrepancies, the Finnish version prevails.
Instructions for Rectification by Type of Decision
An applicant may request rectification of an admission decision within 14 days of the publication of the selection results. When the results are published, information must be provided on how the applicant can find out how the selection criteria were applied to them and how to request rectification.
The admission results cannot be changed to the detriment of any person already admitted as a result of a rectification request.

Subject line: “Appeal of admission decision”
A decision on rectification may be appealed to the Vaasa Administrative Court within 30 days of notification of the decision.
A student has the right to receive information on how the assessment criteria have been applied and to review their assessed written or otherwise recorded work. The student may request clarification of the assessment grounds from the course teacher.
The student also has the right to request rectification.
The procedure is two-stage:
Stage 1: A student dissatisfied with their assessment may request rectification orally or in writing within 14 days from the date they had the opportunity to receive the results and information on the application of the assessment criteria.
The same procedure applies to thesis assessment.
Before submitting a request, carefully read the appeal instructions.
Use the designated rectification form.
The completed form and attachments must be sent by email to the teacher responsible for the assessment / thesis supervisor and to Centria’s registry (kirjaamo@centria.fi).
Subject line: “Appeal of assessment decision”
Stage 2: If the student is dissatisfied with the decision given by the teacher, they may request rectification in writing from the Degree Committee within 14 days of receiving the decision. The decision of the Degree Committee is final and cannot be appealed.
The rectification process is two-stage:
Stage 1: A student dissatisfied with the RPL (AHOT) decision may request rectification orally or in writing from the person who made the decision within 14 days of being notified.
Read the appeal instructions carefully before submitting the request.
Use the designated rectification form.
The completed form and attachments must be sent by email to the decision-maker and to Centria’s registry (kirjaamo@centria.fi).
Subject line: “Appeal of recognition of prior learning decision”
Stage 2: If the student is dissatisfied with the decision, they may request rectification in writing from the Degree Committee within 14 days of notification. The decision of the Degree Committee is final.
The university of applied sciences may grant, upon application, additional time to a student who has not completed their studies within the statutory time limit.
If additional time is not granted and the student loses their right to study, the student may request rectification in writing from the Rector within 14 days of notification.

Subject line: “Appeal concerning loss of right to study”
A decision on rectification may be appealed to the Vaasa Administrative Court within 30 days of notification.
According to Section 60 of the Universities of Applied Sciences Act, grant decisions cannot be appealed.
A student may be issued a written warning or suspended for a fixed term (maximum one year) under Section 38 of the Universities of Applied Sciences Act.
A written warning is decided by the Rector, and a fixed-term suspension by the Board of the university of applied sciences.
These decisions may be appealed to the Vaasa Administrative Court within 30 days of notification.
If studies involve requirements related to the safety of minors, patient or client safety, or traffic safety, the university of applied sciences may withdraw the right to study (Section 33) or reinstate it (Section 35).
Such decisions may be appealed to the Students’ Legal Protection Board within 14 days of notification.
