Background

The Centria Wood project focuses on ways to fasten innovation and investments on finishing processes, developing expertise on wood processing process as well simulating both products and their production processes. The decisions were made taking into account and mapping the Finnish wood producers business needs, their priorities and their strategies.

The main objective of the project is to speed up the wood industry companies’ development in terms of surface treatment, within Centria’s operational area. Centria Wood also aims at raising Centria’s role as a researcher and developer within the wood industry. Ultimately, Centria Wood will become a nationally recognized R&D centre for wood finishing, thanks to its extensive knowledge in production process management and business operations, which may strongly influence the development of the regional wood product. Centria Woods’operations are supported by the strong wood industry concentration within the region.

The project aims at accelerating the implementation of finishing innovations in wood companies by developing the testing environment and modes of operation,  improving the companies’ investments efficiency, deepening Centria Woods’ expertise within the core fields and concretizing its expertise as well as raising the Centria Wood project to the status of a nationally recognized competence center for surface finishing.
