Working life is undergoing constant change due to digitalisation, the rise of remote work, and new ways of working – all of which require employees to be flexible and adaptable. At the same time, population ageing, retirements, a shortage of skilled labour, and evolving competence needs are creating increasing challenges for employers. The rising retirement age further highlights the need for solutions that support the employment and labour market participation of people aged 55 and over.
At the core of the project is career management, which is seen as a key approach to addressing skills mismatches and labour market gaps. It not only helps to extend working careers but also enhances motivation and well-being across different life stages. Career management also strengthens organisations’ ability and readiness to support the development of older employees’ skills.
The project aims to develop practical tools and methods that support the upskilling and well-being of people over 55, while improving the alignment between jobs and jobseekers in an evolving work environment.
The project aims to
- Strengthen the well-being of people over 55 by developing tools for self-assessment and skills development.
- Improve labour market functioning by identifying changing skill needs and co-creating solutions with employers and regional employment actors.
- Develop a digital tool for upskilling, designed to support individual guidance and usable by jobseekers, employees, employers, and employment services professionals.
- Create a career management model and practical guide to help employers support older employees in extending their careers and making full use of their skills.
Centria University of Applied Sciences is responsible for developing the digital tool.
The project is led by Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, with Centria University of Applied Sciences and Tampere University of Applied Sciences as co-implementers.
