About the project
Northborne strengthens innovation and entrepreneurship in the rural regions of Ostrobothnia and Västernorrland by developing a cross-border community accelerator for startups, scaleups and innovative SMEs. Rural companies often face challenges such as limited support structures, weaker visibility and a lack of networks, which can make entrepreneurship isolating and hinder growth. The project responds to these challenges by creating an open, community-driven accelerator model that offers tools, mentoring and peer learning in a supportive environment.
Northborne will design and test a new accelerator concept tailored for rural conditions. The pilots combine workshops, mentoring and cross-border meetings to help companies refine ideas, access expertise and build long-term relationships.
A structured mentorship program complements the accelerator by connecting entrepreneurs with experienced professionals who can offer guidance, expand networks and support business development.
The project also engages municipalities and regional actors to raise awareness of rural entrepreneurship, to strengthen local support systems and promote a more innovation-friendly mindset.
Ultimately, Northborne aims to build vibrant, resilient and futureoriented rural business communities by creating a transferable community accelerator model, strengthening crossborder networks and increasing recognition of the value that rural innovation brings.
