Seminar: Initial steps in piloting the value chain for wind turbine blade recycling

Composite materials, widely used in industries such as wind power, are durable but difficult to recycle. As the wind energy sector continues to grow rapidly, the need to manage end-of-life turbine blades and other composite products has become an urgent environmental and industrial issue. Across Europe and especially around the Baltic Sea, there is increasing pressure to develop circular solutions that prevent valuable materials from ending up as waste.

16.9.2026 klo 15:30 – 18:00

Virtual meeting

Join us for an online afternoon seminar live from Piteå, Sweden, to hear about strategies for managing composite waste from end-of-life wind turbines. The seminar will present the CompositeCircle project’s pilot activities and highlight the opportunities they create for both industry stakeholders and end-users. The aim is to promote collaboration between wind energy operators, waste management companies, and technology providers in order to develop safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions for the processing and utilization of composite materials.

Agenda:

15:30 Welcome and introduction to the ongoing project, Eemeli Seppänen (Centria)
15:35 Pilot 1: Co-processing across Baltics (WMAL, ENA, RTU)
15:55 Pilot 2: The potential of solvolysis methods, results, and the utilization of the material as end products (Noma, Centria, LTU)
16:15 Guidebook: Bringing the overall concept together (RTU)
16:30 Break
16:50 RISE Research Institutes of Sweden
17:10 AFTERWIND, Julia Minici & Nik Jensen
17:30 Panel discussion, Pirjo Pietikäinen (Finnish Plastics Industries Federation)
