Challenges of Industry 4.0 in SME businesses were presented in SIMS Symposium

The AA3D project was represented at the 3rd International Symposium on Small-scale Intelligent Manufacturing Systems, SIMS. The Symposium was hosted by Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, in Trondheim, Norway. The event was held online, on June 10-12, with international participants from academia and industry. AA3D contributed with two papers, one paper on cross-border collaboration on Industry 4.0 business models for SMEs, and one paper on distributed ledger technologies. The Industry 4.0 contribution discusses and problematizes the topic in the setting of small-scale production. It concludes that SMEs have the prerequisites in place, but are challenged by limited access to competences for emergent technologies. The distributed ledger technologies elaborated on a demonstrator for how to build trust in value chains, and suggests that social game theory may contribute to progress the implementation of a digital solution.
